The Home of the Winning Shot
“Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” If that old adage is true, Gary Lewis, owner of G.L. Lewis Photography, is a man of leisure.
Mr. Lewis snapped his first photo at age 8, and he’s loved it ever since. So when he opened G.L. Lewis Photography in 1995 and began taking pictures full time, he began a labor of love.
“I’ve been taking pictures all of my life – ever since my mother gave me her Brownie camera when I was 8 years old,” Mr. Lewis explained. “Everyone has a gift and a talent. Photography is my gift.”
More and more corporations, organizations and individuals are utilizing Mr. Lewis’ gift of taking beautiful photos. His clients include: Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Cincinnati Public Schools, the Ohio Department of Development Division of Tourism, Procter & Gamble, The Cincinati Herald, the Urban League, the Cincinnati NAACP, Miller Brewing Company, Closing the Health Gap, Progressive Baptist National Convention, Top Ladies of Distinction, the Links, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and many others. He is also the associate grand photographer of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Ohio.
In addition to corporate and nonprofit organizations, Mr. Lewis also keeps very busy photographing weddings, publicity photos, Little League sports, high school proms, retirement parties, galas, balls, family reunions and other special events.
“We do whatever it takes to always get that “winning shot”, Mr. Lewis said. “We have competitive pricing, and we’re always punctual and dependable. We also make sure everyone on our staff is personable and puts everyone at ease.”
G.L. Lewis Photography has also photographed a number of local, regional and national political leaders. He said his favorite assignments were the two occasions in 2008 when he photographed then Presidential Candidate Barack and Michelle Obama for the Cincinnati Herald.
Like many entrepreneurs, this is Mr. Lewis’ second career. Before pursuing photography full-time, he worked for 29 years in the foundry at Cincinnati Milacron, just doing photography on the side. “On the same day I lost my job, I came home, put on a suit and went looking for a job as a photographer,” he said. “Taft High School was my first stop.”
After he landed that job, he went on to get photography gigs to photograph sports and special events at a number of CPS schools — Woodward, Shroder, South Avondale, Bloom and Parham. More weddings and other Little League teams came next.
“With God’s help, I made it. When people say I do a good job, I say, `It’s the Lord’s work.’ I can’t do anything without Him,” Mr. Lewis said.
Mr. Lewis also credits the support of his wife Sharon, his five children, his church and his lodge. He is an usher and active member of Southern Baptist Church. He is also a 33rd degree Free Mason; a member of Gothic Lodge 122; a member of King Solomon Consistory; Sinai Temple 59; Alpha Priory 1 and numerous other Masonic houses.
